With the Ibanez PTPRE Pentatone Preamp, the Japanese company presents the ultimate tool for shaping top-notch distorted guitar sounds. While a traditional analogue distortion circuit creates the basis for juicy overdrive and high-gain sounds, the semi-parametric graphic equalizer allows extremely precise adjustment of the tone colour. In addition to pre- and post-boosts for solid boosting of input and output levels, Ibanez's Pentatone Preamp offers a handy noise gate that reliably keeps unwanted noise in check even at gain settings.

Flexible distortion effect

At the heart of the all-analog Pentatone Preamp is a classic distortion circuit that delivers juicy Overdrive of a classic nature or aggressive, contemporary high-gain distortion, depending on the position of the gain pot. In addition to the traditional tone stack for adjusting the bass and treble, the distortion circuit offers a Bright mode that helps even dull-sounding instruments to shine by boosting the treble.

Semi-parametric graphic EQ

In order to be able to optimally adapt the sound character of the distorted guitar sounds to your own ideas, Ibanez equips the PTPRE pedal with a graphic equalizer. Each of the five EQ bands offers a potentiometer for the precise selection of the centre frequency, while precise boosts or cuts of up to 10 dB each can be set via the illuminated faders.

Pre- and Post-Boosts

Two Booster placed at different points in the signal of the Pentatone Preamp also allow to influence the sound by partly massive boosts of the signal level. The pre-boost placed directly after the input helps to tickle the last bit of gain out of the following components even with weak pickups. The Post-Boost placed before Output, on the other hand, is perfectly suited to boost the volume for solos or to put pressure on the following guitar amplifier.

Noise gate

Last but not least, Ibanez equips the PTPRE Pentatone Preamp pedal with a noise gate that is quickly and intuitively adjusted via just one knob thanks to the straightforward one-knob concept. The fast-response circuitry of the Gate eliminates unwanted noise during pauses in playing without cutting off decaying notes too early.
